WHAT’S NEW…SSSS?

MEET JACLYN AMOR - Canvas Rebel Feature

We were lucky to catch up with Jaclyn Amor recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jaclyn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?

When I was six. That’s the cute answer. Because when I was five I remember telling my mum that I wanted to be a doctor, more specifically, a pediatrician. For some reason as a child I felt it necessary to take care of other children. Perhaps it was due to me being a sick kid who was overly exposed to doctors and hospitals, or just a natural thought for anyone with doctor parents who quizzed them on the human anatomy in lieu of a bedtime story. But something clicked when I was six as I painted a picture of a stuffed animal: I want to do this. And by this I meant making things.

BONE COLD: First look review on Horror Buzz

Writer/director Billy Hanson‘s Bone Cold has some weight and depth to it that pushes it beyond a B-movie creature feature or a bullet-riddled action flick. The film follows two Black Ops on a mission in Eastern Ukraine, along the Russian border. It’s there where they encounter a gnarly creature in the woods, along with enemy snipers. But the film’s real high point is the way that it explores the protagonist’s PTSD and guilt. This gives the film a type of nuance that makes it engaging and very human.

ONLY BRICKS SAYS IT'S TIME TO SMILE :)

“Smile, It’s Over :)” Music video write up on Rival by Samuel Aponte

If I had to describe the Only Bricks Sound with a single idea it would be like shaking a can of energy soda. And I say "Soda" specifically because of the fizzy, sparkly sound that their newest song "‘Smile, It’s Over :)’ pops off with, smiley-face and all.

This juicy bubblegum of a single is brought to us by spouses and partners in crime Anne DiGiovanni and guitarist Joseph Lewczak. The pair tied the knot in 2017 and roughly a year later they released their debut EP "Foundation", and I can't wait to find out if this blatantly cheeky duo is going to name their second EP (or debut album) with a reference to construction or infrastructure once more.

…you can suck it, ONLY BRICKS Smile, It’s Over :)

“Smile, It’s Over :)” Music video write up on The GTC by Walter Price

Hey, we’ve all fantasized about saying exactly what’s on our mind as we exit a particularly gnawing situation. But we don’t, but what if we did? What an exhilarating taste of ultimate mental freedom it would be. Well, the recent going-your-own-way single from indie-pop duo Only Bricks, “Smile, It’s Over :)”, is just the anthem for such a scenario.

Interview: Koosh Saxena Talks About Music and Taking Risks

“Tryin’ My Best” Music video write up on Muzique Magazine by Tinker Talavera

“Trying My Best” is the title of the latest music video from Koosh Saxena, who is based in Santa Cruz, California, where when not writing new songs or recording, he spends his time surfing, playing the sitar, and yoga.

After playing in bands, touring across the U.S., and signing with Housework Records, Koosh decided to go solo, allowing him to generate his distinctive, tantalizing sound, a tasty blend of jazz, reggae, and alt-rock.

Interview on Shoutout LA

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaclyn Amor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jaclyn, how do you think about risk?
I am a risk taker. Undeniably so. I’ll pack a suitcase and move across country on a whim…oh wait, that’s exactly how I ended up here. I think being a creative is already a risk in itself. The lack of consistency and foundation seems glaring when you first branch out and freelance – there’s no right or wrong way to go about our work, so deciding to dedicate your life to your craft is the risk…

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaclyn Amor.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
How shall we compress thirty-something years into a few paragraphs?

I was born in Manila, Philippines in the aftermath of the EDSA revolution or the People’s Power revolution. With its economic instability and probably not the most ideal place to raise their kids, my parents thought it best to hop down to Sydney Australia and live in a less tumultuous environment…
